loves you even before your first cup of coffee,
and takes you out to dinner when you don’t feel like cooking.

He understands when you want to be “alone, but with people.”
He just smiles when he catches…

On Conquering the World

Now is not the time
to lose your mind,
to allow yourself to be pulled down
and overwhelmed by changing tides.

“Take courage!”
These are the words that anchor me.
They quiet raging storms
and calm the angry sea.

Now is not the time
to lose your sight,
while the earth shifts…

I always fear the mirror
because it never lies.
I see all her wrongness,
each painful compromise.

But your sight
is different from mine.

You look at her through loss,
and blood,
and sacrifice.

And you see
the sincerity in her eyes.
You see
a life that’s worth the fight.
